Ukrainians Feel Betrayed As Trump's Aide Backs Russian Control Of Occupied Regions

Ukrainian activists and civilians have reacted with fury after a senior aide to Donald Trump reportedly supported a peace plan that would allow Russia to keep four occupied Ukrainian regions, calling it a shocking betrayal by their American allies.

The proposal, advanced by U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, would cement Moscow's control over Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia - including Europe's largest nuclear plant. This comes despite over two years of Ukrainian sacrifices to defend these territories.

"This isn't diplomacy - it's capitulation to Putin," said Yuriy Boyechko of Hope for Ukraine, his voice shaking with anger. "First we bleed to defend our land, now Trump's people want to hand it to Russia as a gift?" His outrage reflects growing despair among Ukrainians who see Western support eroding.

The plan mirrors Trump's own comments that Ukraine should accept territorial losses, with the former president recently stating Russia "fought for that land" and Ukraine won't get it back. For millions of displaced Ukrainians, this represents a nightmare scenario - their homes permanently swallowed by Russia.

In occupied areas, conditions grow more dire by the day. A new Kremlin decree forces Ukrainians to obtain Russian passports by September or lose access to healthcare, jobs, even the right to stay in their own homes. "They're erasing our identity," said Olha, 49, who escaped Russian captivity last year.

Her son Stepan, 22, described unimaginable horrors under occupation. "The beatings, the electric shocks...and now America wants to reward this cruelty?" he asked, fresh scars visible on his arms.

While Ukrainian officials vow to keep fighting, there's growing fear that Western fatigue could leave them abandoned. "We trusted America," said a tearful teacher in Kyiv. "Now we see the price of that trust."

As frontline battles rage, this leaked proposal has struck a devastating psychological blow. With Trump leading U.S. polls, many Ukrainians now wonder - is this the beginning of their worst fears coming true?
