The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has commended Operation Udo Ga-Achi, the state’s newly introduced security initiative, for its effectiveness and urged it to sustain its efforts. The endorsement came during ANSEC’s second meeting of the year, held in the Council Chamber on February 10, 2025.
Speaking on the review of the
Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, the Commissioner for Information, Dr.
Law Mefor, criticised attempts to misrepresent the law as targeting traditional
worship. He reaffirmed that the law was designed to combat crime, particularly
activities linked to fraudulent and malevolent native doctors who distort Igbo
cultural values.
“The law does not outlaw
traditional worship, which remains an integral part of Igbo religion and
culture,” Dr. Mefor stated. “Rather, it is aimed at eliminating criminal
elements who exploit cultural beliefs for personal gain, misleading the youth
and society at large.”
The Council called for moral
rearmament and social re-engineering to restore core societal values and safeguard
the future of the state.
ANSEC also commended the
beneficiaries of the ‘1Youth, 2Skills’ programme for their commitment to
training 1,000 additional youths free of charge. The initiative, which has been
running for two years, aims to equip young people with vocational skills, and
the Council hailed this new undertaking as a significant milestone towards
youth empowerment in the state.
In further developments, ANSEC
approved N160 million for the acquisition of five mining assets, bolstering
Anambra’s engagement in the solid minerals sector. The newly acquired assets
include a pharmaceutical-grade kaolin asset, a gravel pack asset, a glass sand
asset, a sand quarry, and a ceramic kaolin asset. These acquisitions complement
earlier investments by the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company and
are expected to enhance the state’s economic profile within the sector.
The Council reiterated its
commitment to fostering sustainable development while maintaining the cultural
and economic integrity of Anambra State.
