The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has announced plans to cover the medical expenses of Mr Okechukwu Akaneme, a victim of brutality by contractors from the Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA). This decision was made during the 37th ANSEC meeting in response to a fact-finding report on the incident. Mr Akaneme, who is currently hospitalised in Enugu, also received heartfelt sympathies from the Council, which extended prayers for his swift recovery.
The meeting also highlighted
the state’s cultural achievements, celebrating Anambra’s recognition as the
“Most Creative Cultural Troupe” at the National Festival of Arts and Culture
(NAFEST), held in Abuja from November 22 to 30, 2024. The Council applauded
this milestone as part of the growing list of accolades achieved during
Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s 32-month tenure.
Commendations and Appointments
ANSEC expressed gratitude to
President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for appointing Mr Mark Okoye as Managing
Director/CEO of the Southeast Development Commission (SEDC). The Council also
praised Governor Soludo for his efforts in facilitating the appointment. Mr Okoye,
the former Managing Director of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and
Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), is expected to bring his wealth of experience to
the role.
Preparations for Yuletide

approaches, the Council directed relevant ministries, departments, and agencies
to ensure all state roads are not only motorable but also adorned with festive
decorations to create a welcoming atmosphere for Ndi Anambra. Additionally, in

illnesses, ANSEC urged citizens to prioritise their health and take preventive
measures.
