Nollywood icon Amaechi Muonagor was laid to rest on Friday at his residence in Obosi, located in Anambra State's Idemili South Local Government Area. The funeral was marked by an outpouring of grief from family, relatives, and the Nollywood community.
Among the dignitaries who
attended to pay their respects were Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023
presidential candidate, and Anambra State Commissioner for Culture, Tourism,
and Entertainment, Dom Onyenji. They joined others in mourning the late actor.
Peter Obi, in his condolence
speech, expressed sorrow over Muonagor's passing and offered prayers for the
repose of his soul, urging the bereaved family to find solace.
Commissioner Dom Onyenji
remarked on the significant loss to Nollywood, describing Muonagor as a
creative personality who had mentored many stars in the industry. He assured
that the Anambra State government stood in solidarity with the Nollywood
community during this period of mourning.
Emeka Ejezie, National
President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), conveyed his condolences
through veteran actor Steve Eboh, emphasizing Muonagor's influence and
greatness within the industry. He prayed for strength for the bereaved family
to cope with their loss.
Mrs. Chinyere Anyaegbunam, the
state chairman of AGN, also paid tribute, highlighting Muonagor's role as a
father figure and mentor to many in the movie industry. She underscored his
significant contributions and the profound impact of his mentorship on the
lives and careers of numerous actors.
The funeral ceremony was a poignant moment for the Nollywood community, as they bid farewell to a beloved figure whose legacy will endure through his contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
