The 21st edition of the QS World University Rankings has been released for 2024, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has claimed the top spot for the 13th consecutive year. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, MIT continues to lead the global academic scene. Following MIT, Imperial College London secured second place, moving up from sixth position, and the University of Oxford ranked third.
Harvard University maintained
its fourth-place ranking with a score of 96.8, closely followed by the
University of Cambridge in fifth place with a score of 96.7. This year’s
rankings, the largest ever, included over 1,500 universities and were based on
the analysis of millions of academic papers and expert opinions.
The ranking metrics included academic
and employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty,
international faculty ratio, international student ratio, international
research network, employment outcomes, and sustainability. The United States
was the most represented country with 197 ranked institutions, while European
institutions, particularly from the UK, secured half of the top 10 positions.
The UK had the second-highest number of universities in the ranking, with four
institutions in the top 10.
