Kano Govt Orders Demolition Of Ado-Bayero’s Palace

The Kano State Government has issued a directive for the demolition of the palace belonging to Aminu Ado-Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano., citing the need for renovation.

This move follows a court ruling validating the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 while nullifying Governor Abba Yusuf's actions thereafter.

Attorney General Haruna Dederi announced plans for the reconstruction, including demolishing and rebuilding the palace's deteriorated wall fence immediately. Additionally, the Commissioner of Police has been instructed to relocate Bayero from the Nasarawa GRA mini palace.

The decision has sparked significant debate and raised concerns about cultural heritage and governance, amidst ongoing tensions between traditional institutions and state authorities. The government's actions underscore broader implications for governance structures and traditional leadership in Kano State, highlighting the complex interplay between legal frameworks, political decisions, and historical legacies.
