A 35-year-old man, identified as Caleb Simon, stood before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, facing allegations of assaulting his neighbour over loud music.
The police accused Simon of
assault and causing grievous harm in connection with the incident, which
reportedly occurred on April 10 at his residence.
Prosecutor Insp. Chidi Leo
informed the court of the circumstances surrounding the altercation, stating
that it arose after Simon had warned his neighbor, Blessed Gaius, to cease
playing loud music within the compound.
Allegedly, Simon struck Gaius
with a log of wood, resulting in various injuries. The prosecutor cited
sections 241 and 221 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017, which outline
penalties of three years' imprisonment for assault and causing grievous harm,
respectively.
Simon pleaded not guilty to the
charges. Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted bail to the defendant in the
amount of ₦100,000, with one surety required to provide the same sum.
Additionally, both the defendant and surety must furnish two recent passport
photographs and three years' worth of tax clearance certificates. The case is
scheduled for further proceedings on May 13.
