Premier League giants Arsenal have been cleared to pursue Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following their UEFA Champions League elimination, a result largely attributed to the team's lack of a consistent goal-scorer.
Arsenal's
aggregate 3-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals prompted the club's
hierarchy, as reported by teamTALK, to target Napoli's Osimhen as a solution to
their scoring woes.
The
25-year-old has emerged as one of Europe's most coveted forwards, garnering
acclaim during his 18-month stint in Serie A.
Despite
rumored interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid, Mikel
Arteta's side is now considered the frontrunner to secure Osimhen's services this
summer.
However,
recent reports from teamTALK suggest a shift in focus for Mauricio Pochettino's
team, as they opt to pursue Lille's Jonathan David instead of Osimhen. Valued
at £42.8 million, David has excelled in Ligue 1, netting 23 goals in 40 appearances
this season.
With
Chelsea also in the race for David, Arsenal may have a clearer path to
negotiate a deal for Osimhen when the summer transfer window opens in August.
While
Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Eddie Nketiah have contributed 24 goals
collectively for Arsenal this season, Arteta remains keen on further
reinforcements, similar to last summer's signings of Declan Rice and Havertz.
"The
plans that we have for the summer are very clear," said Arteta,
emphasizing the club's strategic approach. Osimhen's impending decision on his
future has sparked speculation, with recent comments from the Arsenal boss
hinting at a potential move later this year.
