In a heartening display of compassion, Dr. Innocent Okonkwo, a journalist from Anambra state, has undertaken the construction of a four-bedroom bungalow for Ms. Agnes Manafa, who has endured over a decade living in a dilapidated mud house.
Dr. Okonkwo, a native of
Aguleri community in Anambra and Founder/Publisher of Ogene Media Team (OMT),
an online media outlet, embarked on this philanthropic endeavor after
witnessing Ms. Manafa's dire living conditions. The childless widow, hailing
from Igboezunu Aguleri, had been struggling without adequate shelter, often
resorting to seeking assistance for roof repairs.
In an exclusive interview with
our correspondent, Dr. Okonkwo explained his motivation behind the gesture,
stating, "Aunty Agnes Manafa was living in a dilapidated mud house. She is
from Igboezunu Aguleri, childless and of age. She usually asked me for money to
repair her leaking roof. At a point, she said the carpenters were afraid to
climb the weak mud house."

Despite the substantial
financial commitment involved in constructing the new dwelling, Dr. Okonkwo
remained undeterred. "When I estimated the cost of a small room and
parlour self-contained, it was over 2 million naira to finish it," he
revealed.
Urging fellow Nigerians to
emulate his example and extend assistance to those less fortunate in society,
Dr. Okonkwo emphasized the importance of collective efforts in alleviating the
plight of the underprivileged.
