Buhari, Tinubu: Who Laid The Foundation Of Food Crises In Nigeria?

By Polycarp Onwubiko

History cannot be despised no matter the circumstances, especially by political leaders both in civilized countries of the world and underdeveloped countries as well. There is a time honoured aphorism that "no condition is permanent", according to Right Hon Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, the first president of Nigeria during the First Republic.

The APC chieftains must take the responsibility for the apparent state of anomy cascading towards anarchy ( but God forbid) in the present realities in the country because of what somebody described as "hero worship" of the immediate past president of Nigeria, Buhari.

Revelling and luxuriating in sycophancy and bootlicking, Buhari's closest friends and acolytes having observed the trajectory of ruin and disaster due to his autocratic predisposition, ethno religious irredentism and despicable aloofness on the necessity to see reason to respect the principles of federal system of government which go along with good governance, they refused to advise him to retrace his ignoble measures for the corporate interest of the country.

Having allegedly assured the Fulani race in the West Africa Sahel region that God has given them Nigeria as permanent residence, the borders in the Northern part of the country were flung open for their unchecked infiltration. Having infiltrated they , with the covert nod of Aso Rock, they Islamic terrorists masquerading as herdsmen embarked on ethnic cleansing of Christian communities in southern Kaduna and middle belt states and occupying the communities vacated by the survived ones who are quartered in makeshift refugee resettlements and dying in droves while the federal government and its security agents feel unconcerned.

Since the large and vast expanse of arable lands for farming have been vacated for fear of the terrorists masquerading as herdsmen, farming had to take the back side hence the devastating food crises throughout the country leading to looting trailers and trucks carrying food commodities especially in the northern part of the country. This latest development has led to food manufacturers to threaten shut down of their factories and laying off the workers; and the consequences could not indescribable and horrendous.

In the usual deception and childish gimmickry the federal government embarked on fire brigade measure by promising distribution of few tonnes of food reserves in the ware houses. That led to Vanguard columnist, Dele Sobowale who described the promise as deception and groping in the dark.

Writing in the Vanguard column March 3, 2024 he remarkably said inter alia:

"To be candid, government at all levels is not being honest with us. Irrespective of of which political party is in power at federal and state levels, their reactions to the looming famine is frankly speaking shocking. Millions of Nigerians lives are at stake.

"Perhaps it is only a coincidence that the FG , which encouraged herdsmen and bandits to drive millions of farmers off the farms, was headed by Mohammed Buhari of the All Progressive Congress, APC--whose symbol is the broom. Present and future historians, writing about how we ended up in this terrible situation, in which most Nigerians now live with empty stomach, must lay the blame squarely on the door step of Buhari and the APC National Secretariat.

"Buhari started the demolition job on our farms; and none of the members called him out. One official actually had the effrontery to go to the television to offer fellow Nigerians the Devil's alternative--your land or your life. That was the audacity of infamy which has landed us where we are with regard to food production... A lot of farmers have withdrawn services on the farms due to insecurity.

"One Pastor from the Devil's chapel went to work to work for Buhari for eight years. While in residence at Aso Rock, which we have been told was overrun by demons by a previous lodger, the Pastor on live TV supported the slaughter of thousands of farmers who refused to surrender their lands to herdsmen. Now he has joined others who had inhabited the dungeon to write books about Buhari's" achievements" in their books, you will not read about how herdsmen militia, about 400,000 armed assassins, was created to capture Nigeria today---killing, kidnapping, raping and making farming impossible.

"Their Life Patron lives in peace in Daura. About 380,000 Nigerians have paid with their lives for this particular "achievement". But Pastor won't tell you the truth about herdsmen genocide".

Wonderful and fearless Columnist. The formidable challenge to find solution to the ravaging hunger in Nigeria lies with president Tinubu and not the so-called"National Economic Advisory Council", no, let him implement his presidential election campaign Manifesto on food security because he knew all the horrendous atrocities perpetrated and still doing so by the terrorists masquerading as herdsmen occupying the communities in southern Kaduna and middle belt states while the survived ones are languishing in makeshift refugee resettlements.

Let Tinubu not shy away from this crucial task to drive the Islamic invaders out of the country for the refugees to go back to their ancestral homelands and pick the pieces of their shattered livelihood and start clearing farmlands for all year round farming.
