In a heartbreaking incident under investigation, 27-year-old Vera Okoth from Umiru village, Siaya, Kenya, took her own life after facing job search challenges. Okoth's lifeless body was found hanging in the family's toilet on Tuesday, discovered by her mother.
Siaya County authorities, led
by Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, reported that the mother realized Okoth was missing
from her room when attempting to wake her up. Upon checking the nearby toilet,
she tragically discovered her daughter's lifeless body with a rope around her
neck.
Police preliminary
investigations revealed that Okoth had applied for nearly 500 jobs without
success. Before her untimely death, she had expressed her frustration to her
mother, questioning if she would ever secure employment. The deceased earned a
bachelor's degree in science from Masinde Muliro University in Kenya in 2019.
Kimaiyo stated that as no
suicide note was found, the motivation behind the incident remains unknown. All
of Okoth's certificates were reportedly left on her bed. "We are
investigating the incident. We are yet to establish the motive for now,"
said Kimaiyo.
