Jeff Bezos Makes Over $7.9 Million Every Hour In 2023

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com Inc. and a prominent figure in modern business, experienced a remarkable surge in his net worth, skyrocketing from $107 billion in early 2023 to a staggering $177 billion a year later, marking a substantial $70 billion gain, as reported by Fortune. This translates to an increase of $191,780,822 per day or approximately $7,990,868 per hour.

In a striking perspective, Bezos's earnings parallel the median lifetime earnings of a typical U.S. worker in 2023 — $1.7 million — achieved in about 0.21 hours or roughly 12.76 minutes. Essentially, what an average worker earns throughout an entire career, Bezos garners in just under 13 minutes.

Bezos's wealth surge is predominantly fueled by his ownership of Amazon stock. Since the company's initial public offering in 1997, Amazon has not only expanded its footprint in online retail but also ventured into areas such as cloud computing with Amazon Web Services and digital streaming. These expansions consistently drive Amazon's stock price upward, significantly impacting Bezos's net worth. In 2023, Amazon's global retail e-commerce sales were projected to reach an impressive $746.22 billion, underscoring the company's dominant position in the e-commerce sector.

For fiscal year 2022, Bezos received a total compensation of $1.7 million, comprising a base salary of $81,840 with no bonuses, stock options, or awarded stock. His base salary has remained unchanged since 1998. Over the years, Bezos has divested approximately $27 billion worth of Amazon stock, including a noteworthy 2010 sale of 6 million shares valued at $793 million.

Beyond Amazon, Bezos has diversified his investments, founding Blue Origin Enterprises, a private spaceflight company with ambitious goals such as building space hotels and amusement parks. His acquisition of The Washington Post in 2013 and investments in ventures like Arrived Homes, enabling individuals to invest in rental properties for as little as $100, highlight his strategic investment approach.

Bezos's investments span emerging technologies to traditional media, showcasing his adeptness at identifying and capitalizing on various business opportunities. This diversified investment strategy not only safeguards his financial assets against market volatility but also positions him at the forefront of multiple pioneering industries.
