Anambra Man Gifts Former Teacher Car, N100,000 Monthly Fueling Expenses For 1 Year

Dr. Dominic Nwankwo, a distinguished alumnus of St. John Bosco Seminary, Isuaniocha, has defied the adage that teacher rewards come only in heaven. In a heartwarming gesture, Dr. Nwankwo, accompanied by classmates and prominent figures from the school's Old Boys Association, presented a brand new car to one of his former teachers, Monsignor Sylvester Mgbemfulu.

The presentation, which took place at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Nibo, Awka-South LGA on Wednesday, was attended by notable figures including the school’s Old Boys Association Board of Trustees chairman, Mr. Valentine Obienyem; president, Comrade Celestine Oguegbu; and secretary-general, Sir Chidubem Iloghalu.

In addition to the car, Dr. Nwankwo bestowed a monthly allowance of N100,000 for a year's worth of car fuel upon Msgr. Mgbemfulu. He also surprised the revered teacher with N50,000 for immediate car maintenance and a three-year insurance policy.

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Nwankwo emphasized the profound impact of Msgr. Mgbemfulu's guidance and mentorship during their formative years at St. John Bosco Seminary.

“We were deeply influenced by the teacher’s (Monsignor Mgbemfulu’s) dedication and commitment to education, and this act was a way to express profound gratitude, especially in support of his 50th anniversary of priestly ordination,” Dr. Nwankwo stated.

Msgr. Mgbemfulu, ordained a priest in 1974 by Francis Cardinal Arinze (then an Archbishop), dedicated almost all his active priestly years to seminaries, where he taught Chemistry for over forty years.

Comrade Celestine Oguegbu, a lecturer in the higher institution and the president of the Old Boys Association, highlighted the enduring impact teachers have on their students’ lives. He described the gesture as a poignant reminder of the profound influence educators can have beyond the classroom.

Overwhelmed by the generous gift, Msgr. Mgbemfulu acknowledged the significance of nurturing student relationships. He expressed heartfelt gratitude and prayed for God’s continued guidance upon all his former students. This extraordinary act of gratitude serves as a testament to the lasting impact teachers can have on the lives of their students.
