The President of Turkey, Tayyip Erdogan during a speech to the Turkish Parliament on Wednesday, labeled Israel as a terrorist state, citing what he referred to as the savagery of its actions, particularly in the bombing of civilians displaced from their homes.
Erdogan expressed strong
support for Hamas, considering them a political party elected by the
Palestinian people and characterizing its members as resistance fighters
against occupation policies.
This viewpoint sharply
contrasts with the stance of many Western leaders, including the United States,
Britain, and the European Union, who designate Hamas as a terrorist
organization.
Erdogan also criticized Western
allies, especially the United States, for what he perceives as a backward
approach to the conflict. Additionally, he called for the trial of Israeli
leaders for war crimes at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
The ongoing Israel-Hamas
conflict, which began on October 7, has led to a significant number of
casualties and prompted calls for a ceasefire from some countries, including
Turkey, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.
