Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwo attributes the phenomenon of actors seeking financial help during illness to extravagant spending and a lavish lifestyle. Despite earning substantial incomes during their active careers, Ozokwo asserts that the pressure to maintain a celebrity status, characterized by opulent spending, often leads actors to deplete their resources.
Speaking after receiving the
AMVCA Merit Award, Ozokwo highlighted that the public perception of actors'
wealth, influenced by their appearances on the red carpet, creates a
misconception that they are financially stable. Consequently, when faced with
health challenges, actors find themselves bearing the burden alone. As a
result, when financial resources are exhausted, resorting to soliciting
assistance on social media becomes a necessity.
Ozokwo's comments follow
criticism directed at actors who have sought aid during difficult times,
shedding light on the financial struggles that can accompany a career in the
entertainment industry.
