Ukrainians built a recovery vehicle out of captured Russian T-62 tank

Ukrainian engineers have successfully converted a captured Russian T-62 tank into an armored recovery vehicle, according to Roman Sinicyn, Military Coordinator for the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation.

The modified T-62 is now used for combat operations, specifically for vehicle recovery (towing) and repairing battle-damaged or inoperable armored fighting vehicles such as tanks and armored personnel carriers.

"The crew of this vehicle is protected by tank armor, and our specialists have installed a crane, welded an armored 'wheelhouse' in place of the turret, and added additional tanks and tools," said Sinicyn. He also noted that the project was funded through the foundation's crowdfunding campaign and cost UAH 1.6 million (approximately forty-six thousand dollars).

The T-62 is a Soviet medium battle tank from the 1960s, with the first prototype completed in 1959 and officially accepted into service with the Soviet Army in 1961.

sources said the Russian Armed Forces are facing a shortage of modern tanks as they rebuild units to send back into Ukraine, resulting in the deployment of outdated T-54/55 and T-62 tanks due to operational limitations with newer equipment.
